WTRGRL

Swedish-Mexican-American producer, drummer and songwriter, Chloe Saavedra melds mainstream pop with experimental electronic music in her first self-fronted project, WTRGRL.

From the age of 10, Chloe Saavedra and her sister Asy co-founded the band Smoosh, signed to Barsuk Records and began touring the world with the likes of Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater Kinney and Pearl Jam, and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and released 4 full length
records by the age Chloe was 15. In 2014 the sisters changed their band name to Chaos Chaos and released a full length album with acclaim from Pitchfork, NME, Rolling Stone, Vice and Interview Magazine. Chaos Chaos released a single that topped the Billboard “Hot Rock Charts” and the band has racked up over 120 million streams on Spotify alone.

In 2021 Chloe and her sister took a hiatus from the band to pursue their solo efforts. During this time Chloe released her first song as WTRGRL titled, Party Alone which was featured on Spotify editorial playlist, Hyperpop and has over 131k streams. She began drumming and singing backup vocals for
Caroline Polachek on headline North American, UK and European tours, supported Dua Lipa on the “Future Nostalgia Tour”, and has performed festivals; Primavera, Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Pitchfork Fest, All Points East, and MELT festival. As a session musician, Chloe
has also performed with artists; Conan Gray, Kacy Hill, Lee Ranaldo and has featured as a guest drummer on ten separate occasions on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Having had the lifelong career of drumming, singing and writing with other artists, now with her own project on the horizon, Chloe explains a freedom that she has never experienced before. “I’m finally confident enough to pursue my own project. I’m realising how much fun it is to execute my vision with a team around me that feels like family.” This perhaps explains the long list of artists credited in her upcoming releases, including BABii, Death’s Dynamic Shroud, Tony Seltzer, Madge, Holly Waxwing, July Jones, SEBii, Clearcast
and Maria Escarmiento.

WTRGRL achieves a fine balance of soft ethereal and hardcore electronic music within the template of mainstream pop. The marriage of these qualities allows room for both an intellectual palette and instantaneous gratification. Executive producer, ZHONE, whose production is prominent on WTRGRL’s material, weaves this sound together in the upcoming album, Dripsody, set to release this year.
