"The sound is a touchstone of Ed Cawthorne’s decade on the London jazz circuit as multi-instrumentalist and producer Tenderlonious. His groups Ruby Rushton and the 22archestra are known for their languid, funk-inflected take on the works of Lateef and Coltrane." - The Guardian

22a label boss, flautist, saxophonist, producer and DJ, Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne is regarded as one of the most influential figures in London’s burgeoning underground music scene. His record label, 22a, is one of the most respected independent record labels in the UK, credited with influencing a generation of young musicians and producers in London as well as internationally. His various live projects, and studio productions have gained high praise and support from some of the key tastemakers, DJ’s and radio stations in the world, such as; Gilles Peterson, Bonobo, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan, Benji B, Alexander Nut, Jamz Supernova and many more.

2021 will see him continue in similar prolific fashion – his band Ruby Ruston released an EP ‘Gideon’s Way in June that received support from Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Hughy Morgan and many more. There will also be more music coming from his ‘Cosmica Italiana’ collaboration project with Lorenzo Morresi, inspired by classic jazz-funk, Italian library music. He was a key feature on the new Jaubi album ‘Nafs At Peace’ that was released in May this year, recorded in Lahore and taken from the same sessions as his ‘Ragas from Lahore’ LP. Studio productions can also be expected, he released an EP on the 22a sublabel DAM (Dennis Ayler Music) in April and will follow that up with an album on 22a due for release in October this year.
