'Awestruck with her tone and melodies, insiders sunk into the writing and have come to love the seeming innocence that belies a maturity beyond her years' - Toronto Guardian
Tasha Angela is a talented singer/songwriter/pianist/composer based in Toronto who began capturing industry attention at Jessie Reyez’s songwriting camp in early 2019. Introduced to Dan Kurtz (Dragonette & The New Deal) and his studio, The Asylum, in the spring of 2019 – Tasha found a home that was both comfortable and supportive. It was at The Asylum that she began working and recording the majority of her ‘Hidden Gems EP’ in earnest with producer/arranger Sam ‘Avenue’ Willows (Carousel, Dragonette, Tokyo Police Club). This body of work also includes one single, ‘Up To You’, – which was produced by Juno Award winner Rich Kidd at the Jessie Reyez writing camp. All the songs were mixed by Howie Beck (Feist, Dragonette, Charlotte Day Wilson, etc. ).
Following the successful release of that EP, Tasha returned to the same creative team to begin work on her forthcoming debut album, ‘Who I Am’. Keeping a low profile over the pandemic, Tasha Angela has re-emerged with a soulful, wistful, and dreamy project whose lead singles have already been catching people’s attention on both sides of the pond. Scheduled to be released by Canadian indie label Public Records, with support from UK-based company Global Soul and US-based distribution company Varick Street (Def Jam) – the talented songwriter and performer is earning champions worldwide.
To that note, Tasha Angela is a Honey Jam 2017 alumni and has since held down a residency at the historic Cameron House in downtown Toronto, opened for Leven Kali, been selected as a headliner for Its A School Night showcase and travelled to England for shows at the legendary Jazz Cafe in London and Blues Kitchen in Manchester.
With that said, Tasha is still very much an emerging artist with an exciting journey ahead, so let’s keep an eye out for her upcoming work.
